Wow. Time has been flying. I took a bit of time off from this little space in December somewhat unexpectedly... and here we are at the end of January already. Whew! Does anyone else feel like time needs to slow down a bit? At the beginning of the year, I did what everyone does and started to reflect on the past year and think about what the new year might bring. I've never really been successful with resolutions, but for some reason, having focus seems to make a huge difference for me. And, that little break I took in December was a big part of what drove where my focus is landing for 2015. So... here's where I landed.
Explore: I
want to try new things, see new places and make new foods. First step was finally booking my ticket to France for the Paris marathon. This one is HUGE because I've wanted to go for 25 years and now have a reason to go. I'm on a mission to feel more comfortable in the kitchen, so I'm exploring new foods and recipes.
Listen to understand: Rather than listening
to answer, I want to truly listen. How often do you find yourself
formulating a response or thinking of something you want to say when
someone else is talking to you? Guilty!
Simplify:
oh, Lordy! The hoarder in me struggles with this one. I want to focus
on quality over quantity in all things. I already took a few big steps
by cleaning out the kitchen and bathrooms on NYE and purging like mad. I
also chose to step away from two races I'd committed to for 2015
because I could tell they were going to cause stress for my family.
Done! Another way I'm simplifying... I'm taking on a no-spend challenge a couple of months this year and am beyond excited to see where it takes us. I did it a couple of years ago and was shocked at how little we actually needed, so stay tuned for updates!
Love: one of the things I've tried to do the past four months is
send notes and little care packages to friends and family unexpectedly to remind
them how much they are loved. I found too many people in my life were
appreciated but weren't told. Also, it really hit home this holiday that
my dog of 14 1/2 years will only be with us a short time more. Her
cancer has come back with a vengeance, and the vet confirmed she only
has a few months max. We are going to shower her with love these final
days.
For me, having goals is a way for me to stay centered. What are you working on for 2015? Are you taking a leap of faith this year?
